A walk in the woods may provide good insight into the types of trees that grow well in shady locations.

Most trees need at least some sun, however, there are some trees which need less than others.

Trees which grow well in shady locations include species of various shapes and sizes. Before you plant trees in your landscape, get some professional guidance or compare the situation in your yard to a location where the tree you want to plant is already growing.

Trees which survive in shady locations include...Magnolia, White Bay, American Holly, Drummond Red Maple, Sourwood, Yaupon, Silverbell, Redbud, Cypress, Wax Myrtle, American Beech and Red Bay.
