
A check list of cures and cares for azaleas.
Azaleas are shallow rooted and require lots of water in a well-drained and aerated soil. If an illness results in the plant check these clues.
Poor growth, overall yellow and small foliage and a general unthriftiness describe too many of our azalea plants. A number of reasons can cause our plants to fit that description and not to grow and flower as we expected.

Generally, if we meet the cultural requirements of our azaleas they will be attractive in foliage and in flower.

Mulch
A good mulch of 3 inches of pine straw, hay, leaves or bark will help keep the soil from drying or from becoming excessively warm. A mulch is also very useful in reducing weed problems.
Remember azaleas are shallow rooted and will require a thorough watering once a week if soaking rains do not occur.
