Proper mowing height is important. Lawn grasses in Georgia have different heights at which they should be mowed.
Proper lawn mowing begins with the use of a mower with very sharp blades. Dull blades on rotary and reel mowers will produce a shredded effect on the grass. It will also cause an ugly brown cast in the lawn.
Avoid thatch build-up…
If possible, remove grass clippings when you're mowing. This helps avoid excessive thatch buildup which will have to be removed later. Don't mow in the same direction each time. Alternate your mowing direction and you'll have more upright grass growth and a smoother-looking lawn.
Mowing height…
Proper mowing height is important. Lawn grasses in Georgia have different heights at which they should be mowed. The bermuda grasses should be mowed at a one-inch height.
Mow centipede and St. Augustine at a two-inch height. Mow zoysia grasses at one to one and one half inches and carpetgrass at one and one-half to two inches.
