Buying a Dishwasher

Tests show dishwashers help prevent germs…

There is a dishwasher to fit every kitchen situation: built-in, freestanding, convertible, portable or dishwasher-sink combinations.

A dishwasher is not a luxury. It is a good, solid investment. It offers numerous advantages, the most important are these:

Tests have shown dishwashers help prevent spread of germs associated with the mouth. This is because dishes are thoroughly washed in hot (140-160 degree) water and dried automatically without being touched by hands or dish towels.

Normally a dishwasher is installed near the sink. But, it can be anywhere there is plumbing and electricity.

A Portable Dishwasher…

A portable is equipped with electric and plumbing connections and can be moved at will since it is mounted on wheels. A grounded outlet is necessary for the electrical connection. An adapter placed on the sink faucet completes the plumbing connection.

A Convertible Dishwasher…

A convertible is just what the name implies. It can be used as a portable and later be converted to a built-in. The "conversion" requires a few simple adjustments.

Enjoy New Convenience…

Washing action of dishwashers has greatly improved in recent years. So has the method for disposing of food particles. A number of manufacturers include a soft food disposer as part of the drain system.

With soft food disposers, it is unnecessary to remove anything from the dishes except hard waste such as bones and large lettuce leaves. The soft food disposer very adequately removes the rest with no help from you. Some models have a filter in the bottom. If so, it should be self-cleaning.

For a few extra dollars you can get a cutting board top for your dishwasher, giving you as much as four square feet of board.

Remember: buy a recognized brand, buy from a dealer you know and trust who gives you good service, send the warranty card to the manufacturer, read the instruction book and keep it handy and refer to it often.
