THE AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM at Fort Valley State University is unique in the State of Georgia. There are 26 similar programs throughout the United States. It combines an understanding of the agricultural, biological and physical sciences with managerial and technical skills. The Agricultural Engineering Technology Program is designed for students (1) to obtain a basic knowledge in engineering technology and management; (2) to develop the ability to apply scientific, engineering, and management knowledge toward the solutions of problems associated with sustaining and improving agricultural systems; (3) to develop good communication skills in reading, writing, speaking and use of computer information technology; (4) to pursue careers in natural resource conservation, production management, technical sales and service, quality assurance, material and product testing, and manufacturing technology, and (5) for graduate study in agricultural engineering technology and management, biological systems engineering, biomedical engineering, and medical school.

DEGREES AWARDED include Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Engineering Technology (4-year Program) and the Pre-Agricultural Engineering (2-year Program).

THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE in Agricultural Engineering Technology require a minimum 126 semester credit hours in agricultural engineering technology, mathematics, computer science, social science and management. The Agricultural Engineering Technology curriculum is based on the application of math and sciences, coupled with engineering knowledge and technical skills, to solve problems associated with the production, processing and handling of food, feed, and fiber, while protecting and sustaining the environment for future generations.

A STUDENT’S ORIENTED CURRICULUM: Students have an option to select 15 semester credit hours for one of the minors as follows: agriculture, business management, computer science, mathematics and sciences, and health related areas such as pre-medical, pre-dental and pre-pharmacy.

AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY GRADUATES are in great demand and enjoy diverse and exciting career opportunities in industry, public service and consulting. Some graduates have even started their own companies. The opportunities are endless. In the rapidly changing agricultural sector, societal demand for Agricultural Engineering Technology graduates continues to increase, and starting salaries with B.S. degrees currently range from approximately $28,000 to $35,000 annually, and are among the highest of the college of agriculture majors and non-technical fields.
